Cuni
DMV Emo/Post Hardcore
Cuni is an emo band hailing from the genre's birthplace, Washington, DC. The band started as a solo bedroom indie project with the Saturn EP in 2020. Now, it's evolved into a four-piece that incorporates the same songwriting and twinkly guitars of Saturn but cranks the intensity knob until it breaks off entirely.
Cuni's first studio album Prescribed Burn is the soundtrack to lighting yourself on fire. It's the sonic embodiment of feeling like you've reached your limit with yourself. It encapsulates the intense desire to not just clean your slate but to purge it. Prescribed Burn is outright angry. Recorded at American University and produced by Ekko Astral's Liam Hughes, this record features heavy distortion, chaotic breakdowns, and aggressive drums underlying lyrics of desperation and self-destruction, as well as a faint but present hope for healing and forgiveness. Prescribed Burn is Cuni's attempt at putting their sound in a bottle, filling it with propellant, and lighting the rag.
